Stop downloading as ZIP from SharePoint Online

Hello all,

I was wondering if there is an option in SharePoint Online to stop it from downloading multiple files directly to a compressed folder. Whenever we download multiple files from our SharePoint sites, they are always put together in a compressed folder which we have to extract first before being able to work with it. Is there an option to let it just download the selected files and folders as they are on the SharePoint site?

I'm AnnaThomas and I'd be happy to help you with your question. In this Forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

When you select multiple files and click on the download button, SharePoint Online will create a compressed folder by default. However, you can change this behavior by following these steps:

Select the files and folders you want to download. Click on the "Download" button in the ribbon. In the download dialog box, select the option "Open" instead of "Save". Click on "OK".

Also, as a workaround, we can return to the classic experience and click “Open with explorer” to copy and paste documents in windows explorer.

Or sync the document library using OneDrive and copy/paste the documents.
