The most reliable next step is to reinstall Windows using the official Surface Laptop 7 recovery image. This uses a model‑specific recovery USB to rebuild Windows, drivers, and Surface firmware from scratch. Here’s how to proceed:
-On another Windows PC, download the Surface Laptop 7 recovery image from Microsoft’s Surface Recovery page (you’ll be asked for the device serial number).
-Create a recovery USB (32 GB or larger) and copy the recovery files onto it.
Note: creating/formatting the recovery drive will erase anything currently on the USB.
-Power off your Surface, insert the USB, then hold Volume Down and press Power to boot from the USB.
-Follow the on‑screen prompts to recover from the drive.
If the device still can’t start from the USB recovery drive, that usually points to a deeper firmware/hardware issue rather than a Windows reset problem. At that point, the right next step is assisted support/service (repair or replacement review), especially since the unit was recently repaired.
