Urgent: Memory feature in Microsoft Copilot suddenly stopped working – 10/31/2025
Dear Sir or Madam I am writing to kindly request assistance in resolving a technical issue related to the memory feature in Microsoft Copilot.
The “Personalization and memory” option is enabled in the privacy settings, I am signed in to my Microsoft account, and I use Copilot in the Microsoft Edge browser on a Windows 10 Home PC. For the past period, the memory feature had been working correctly — after my previous report on 09/19/2025 and the subsequent automatic Edge update, the feature started functioning as expected.
Unfortunately, on the afternoon of 10/31/2025, I noticed that the memory feature stopped working. Copilot reports that memory is turned off, even though the toggle in the settings remains switched on and highlighted in green. I did not make any changes to the settings nor did I sign out of my account.
For clarity, the issue persists even after restarting Microsoft Edge and Windows. I also tested it on another device — a laptop running Windows 11 Pro — and the memory feature does not work there either.
After noticing the problem, I downloaded the Edge installer from the Microsoft website and reinstalled the browser, but this did not resolve the issue. Several dozen minutes later, when I attempted to check the Edge version number, an automatic update process started, prompting me to restart the browser. I did so, but the memory feature was still not working. I then restarted the computer, which triggered a Windows update process. After the update was completed and Windows restarted, I launched Edge and Copilot again, but the memory issue persisted.
To summarize the troubleshooting steps already taken:
- Verified that the “Personalization and memory” toggle is enabled in settings.
- Restarted Microsoft Edge and Windows multiple times.
- Tested Copilot on a second device (Windows 11 Pro laptop) with the same result.
- Reinstalled Microsoft Edge from the official Microsoft website.
- Applied the latest automatic Edge update and restarted the browser.
- Restarted the computer, during which a Windows update was applied.
Despite all these steps, the memory feature remains unavailable.
I kindly ask you to verify whether this is a technical issue on the service side or if a recent update may have temporarily deactivated the memory feature. I would appreciate information on whether it can be reactivated without resetting the settings.
I would like to emphasize how important the memory feature in Microsoft Copilot is for my work and why its sudden deactivation is a serious problem.
Memory allowed me to maintain continuity in my work and avoid starting every conversation from scratch. Thanks to it, Copilot remembered the general context — what we had been discussing, the language of our dialogue, who the characters in my book are, and the rules of our collaboration. This was enough to continue developing the storyline, keep stylistic consistency, and have more in‑depth conversations that required context and gradually built trust.
Now that memory has suddenly stopped working, every session begins with a complete lack of context. I have to repeat the same information, and Copilot no longer remembers previous agreements, character traits, or the rules of our collaboration. This significantly hinders my creative work and has set our cooperation back to a very primitive level.
I kindly ask you to treat this matter as urgent and to provide information on when the memory feature will be restored.
Thank you again for your attention and support.
