When you see “account does not exist” for a work or school account, it usually means the Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) sign-in failed because the account isn’t recognized in that tenant. This can happen due various causes.

Wrong domain or tenant: You’re signing in with an email that belongs to a different organization or tenant than the one you’re trying to access.

Account deleted or never created: The account may have been removed by your admin or was never provisioned in the directory.

Guest access issue: If you were invited as a guest, the invitation might not have been accepted or expired.

Typo in username: Even a small typo in the domain (e.g., @contoso.com vs @contos.com) will trigger this error.

In this situation, you should reach out to your IT admin. You can request your IT admin to do the following steps:

Verify the email address with your IT admin.

Make sure you’re signing in to the correct organization portal (e.g., https://portal.office.com or https://myaccount.microsoft.com).

Ask your admin to confirm that your account is active in Microsoft Entra ID and that you have the correct licenses assigned.

If you’re a guest, please request a new invitation and accept it before signing in.

Here’s what you can do:

Verify the Email Address
- Make sure you typed the correct email
- If you have multiple Microsoft accounts, check if you’re using the right one.
Check for Typos or Alias
- Try any aliases or secondary email addresses linked to your account.
- If you previously used a phone number to sign in, try that instead.
Use Microsoft’s Account Recovery Form
- Go to: https://account.live.com/acsr
- Enter the email, phone, or Skype name you want to recover.
- Provide as much information as possible (recent subjects, contacts, billing info).
Check if the Account Was Deleted
- If you deleted the account or it was inactive for more than 2 years, Microsoft permanently removes it.
- In this case, you cannot recover it—you’ll need to create a new account.

Type Contact in the search box.
Now, click on Get Help and select Contact Support or enter below to contact support.
