Do you mean you were using a gmail address as the username for a Microsoft account or do you mean they actually took control of your gmail account? If you were using a gmail address to log into your Microsoft account, did you reuse the password or did you use a password distinct from the password you used to log into the Google account?

If they removed the gmail address from the Microsoft account, you won't be able to get that account back, but you can create a new account using that same address. It will be new, however, and if you had purchased any Microsoft licenses through that account, it's likely they're gone as well. If you had a credit card associated with the Microsoft account, you should contact the issuing company and have them issue a new card. Never use the same password on multiple accounts. Every account you own should have its own unique password and they should be long and complex. Use a password manager to create and remember them.
