existing account does not exist

My Microsoft account, which I used to buy Minecraft, is showing as nonexistent, but it exists because I'm still logged into the Microsoft Store and have the purchase receipt for Minecraft. However, I created another account with the same Gmail address and it worked, but I want my account back. What do I do?

If you were able to create a new account using the same address, either the account was closed because you didn't log in for more than 2 years or you (or someone) changed the alias on the account.

Oh, and one possibility is you added a period to the address - Gmail ignores periods but other services see it as a unique address. For example, diane.p@ is the same account as dianep@ and d.i.a.n.e.p@
