    Hi Jabbe,

Thanks for your post on the community forum. I'm Nik, an independent advisor here to assist you with this.

First, Please make sure that you have the latest iOS updates installed.

Please try these steps to reset the OneNote app on the iPad:

    1. If OneNote is currently running on the shared iPad, force the app to close by double-tapping the Home button on the iPad, and then swiping up on the OneNote app preview.

(For more information, see Force an app to close in iOS.)

    1. On your iPad, tap the Settings app.
    2. In the pane on the left, swipe down to the alphabetical list of installed apps and then tap the OneNote icon.
    3. In the OneNote options on the right, under the Reset heading, tap Reset OneNote.
    4. In the Reset OneNote options on the right, tap to enable the Delete All Notebooks option, and then also tap to enable the Delete Login Credentials option.

Note: Keep in mind that deleting all notebooks removes only offline notebooks. Changes that have not synced will be lost. Notebooks on the server will not be deleted.

    1. Restart OneNote, and then tap Sign In to log in with your own account credentials.

Please let me know the outcome, and I’ll look further into this.

    Finally managed to solve it!

I made an iTunes backup, reset the iPad.

Then restarted, and used the assistance offered, by using settings from my iPhone.

Installed and tried OneNote again: failed!!!

Did one more reset of the iPad.

Did no install from iPhone, just a new clear install.

    Installed OneNote - it works!!!

I got a list of notebooks to open, and they all work.

After that I have NOT restored the backup via iTunes.

I chose to reinstall the few (about 20) apps I had on the iPad.

    And it is still working.

Thank you all for your assistance!

    .. / Jan

    It is iPadOS 14.4.2

    OneNote is 16.48 (21040401)

About 'app activities in the background': should that be on or off, or doesn't matter?

There are some more settings about errors:

    Data from Foreca (off)

    Latest error ID aea5.....6368_main_oom

    Latest error version 16.48.0.210404

It is still worrying that 'reset OneNote' doesn't help at all.

I am also thinking about if there is a problem with a notebook.

But it works without problem on my iPhone, so that doesn't seem logical either.

I just removed, downloaded, installed. Started: opens and disappears in 2 seconds.

Doubleclick on the bytton: OneNote is there.

    So nothing has changed.

You guys are independant advisors, right?

Thanks for your efforts and patience.

Is there no way to get help from Microsoft directly? (I guess Apple won't help...)

    I have been patient, too.

I can live with using OneNote on my PC and my iPhone.

But one of the reasons I bought the iPad was to get my notebooks more easy to read.

So it is disappointing, and weird.

I have never had this kind of 'sustainable' problem on iPhone or iPad before.

    (Not even on Android... ;-)

    Any more ideas?

    Thank you! / Jan

    Hi Jan,

    I’m sorry about the issue.

There is a possibility that corrupted notebooks in your deleted notes might be causing this issue.

    1. In your iPhone, open the OneDrive sign into your account that you use to login on to OneNote
    2. Browser OneDrive's Recycle Bin, check for deleted notebooks
    3. Find the delete notebooks and remove them from the Recycle Bin

Also, If you have access to the OneNote desktop app, then please check if there is an issue opening any specific notebook.

If you still see the issue, the you might need to think resetting the iPad after taking backup of your personal data backup from iPad.

    Step 1- Delete OneNote App

Step 2- Backup Iphone to Itunes on laptop

Step 3- Go into Iphone Settings- General- Reset- Erase All Content and Settings

Step 4- Set up Iphone as new phone

Step 5- Download OneNote App and login(verified app worked)

Step 6- Restore Iphone from Itunes on laptop

    Regards

    Nik

    Hi, my name is Jan,

I am very grateful that I got a reply!

It is SO frustrating that OneNote is not working, since one of the reasons I bought the iPad was to have my notes readily available and easy to read.

I have tried the things you wrote about before, as a matter of fact, since I looked a lot on the net to find some clues or actions. I have also offloaded OneNote, and downloaded and installed it again. Restarted the iPad, and so on.

Anyway, I did exactly the 5 items you said one more time, but there is one exception:

at item 5, after restarting OneNote,  I don't get a chance to do a new login.

(it is the same situation as when I tried this myself yesterday)

OneNote just flickers up, and then disappears again. Every time.

It seems to be running anyway, since it is there when I double-tap as in item 1.

So is there any other way to remove every trace of OneNote, to install it agin from zero?

I suspected ther might be some trouble with one of the notebooks.

But it all works fine on my iPhone (new SE model).

The iPad is the old type, but the new version from 2020.

    And everything else works fine.

Maybe the login keeps hanging in and disturbs OneNote starting from the beginning?

I also have OneCloud running, which is also depending on the same login.

I might also add that there is one piece of information under Settings/Integrity/Analysis:

There was one file created called: OneNote-2021-04-17-143414.ips

It was obviously from yesterday, but before a lot of tests and tries I have done afterwards.

Anyway, it contains some 'Greek' for me, even being a former programmer, e.g.:

    Exception Type: EXC_CRASH (SIGKILL)

    Exception codes: (all hex zeroes)

    Exception Note: EXC_CORPSE_NOTIFY

.. there is one mention of exhausted real (wall clock)  time allowed of 10 seconds (but it pops up and disapperars now in less than a second)

Termination reason: Namespace SPRINGBOARDm Code 0x8badf00d   (bad food ? ;-)

Then there is information about 81 !! threads and a lot more

All I want is to get OneNote running!

So any help is very appreciated!

    Best regards / Jan
