Windows update almost make me lose my job. I want to die. What should I do?

I've already tried everything I could find to disable all Microsoft-related updates, including Windows and Edge updates, from Run, Task Manager, etc.

But just now, when I started my computer to prepare for a meeting, the entire system FROZEN.
I thought it was a virus or hardware out-of-work... but after five minutes, my computer started working again
but only to show a notification on the taskbar saying, "Windows Updates is ready, you need to restart your computer."

This caused me to be late for an important meeting!!!!!!

How can I ensure that Windows Update, this Trojan-like garbage, is completely disabled?
What settings should I check?
How can I prevent the patches that have already been stealthily installed from taking effect?
(I don’t plan to shut down my computer now.)

Because I know recent Windows Updates often cause serious issues, and my work can’t afford the instability and losses they bring.

Windows update might cost me my job. I'm feeling extremely desperate right now. What should I do?

Hello, my name is Anis. I'll be glad to help you today.

I absolutely understand the situation and how you must be feeling right now.

I will be straightforward, Windows Update cannot be blocked from the PC due to security and legal requirements that Microsoft needs to comply.

However, I can help you manage Windows Updates, so that it does not interfere during your work.

    Please perform the following steps.

Go to Settings App > Windows Update

You can pause updates for up to 5 weeks and allow it at your convenient time.

    Then, click on Advanced Options.

Click on Active Hours. Click on the drop down and select Manually.

Choose an active hour which beyond your regular work timings.

I don't think Microsoft offers a "five-week" period or "your convenient time" option. In fact, it only allows a seven-day pause, and no matter how I set the timing.

Windows Update will freeze my computer at "any" given time.

As for the "legal requirements" you mentioned,

May I ask which country's laws these are?

If I turn off Windows Update, will Microsoft have me arrested?

I understand the concern. I am sharing the screenshot from where you can pause windows updates for 5 weeks.

Actually, the rules require Microsoft to provide regular security updates to protect the users. So, it's not you, but Microsoft will be in trouble if they had an option to block the updates completely.

I request you to please perform the steps mentioned in my earlier comment and set an active time beyond your work hours.

Please let me know how it goes.
