This has been a ongoing issue. when a user going to print something there is a message that says driver update needed, however the driver on the print server is the same as what's on the laptop. We have to uninstall and reinstall the printer.
Hi, does the issue still persist after uninstalling and reinstalling the printer driver?
Are there any errors in event log might be related?

The issue still persists for me. The event log does not have any related errors.

Does it happen with a specific printer or with all printers?
All of our big multi-function printers
Although, I did have the problem today with a new HP desktop printer

No, nothing is showing in the event viewer, and windows is up to date.

When the driver on the server is updated, this blocking experience is expected when the user on the client system is not a local administrator.
Are you looking in the PrintService / Admin logs? Please enable the PrintService / Operational logs if nothing pops out in the Admin logs.

If ANY driver component on the print server is updated, then the same behavior blocking behavior is experienced. I've seen the PostScript dlls get updated on the print server which has prevented clients from printing until they were added to the administrators group to satisfy this requirement from Windows.

Firstly, make sure Windows is fully updated. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
Clear Printer Spooler:
net stop spooler
del %systemroot%\System32\spool\printers* /Q /F /S
net start spooler
Fix printer connection and printing problems in Windows
Completely remove old or corrupt printer drivers from the system. Sometimes remnants of old drivers can cause conflicts even if they're not actively in use. Then reinstall the latest driver.
