SCCMCMG old classic and new VMSS- How clients will know to connect new CMG ?

Dear Team,

We are configurating SCCM CMG Virtual machine scale set upon existing Classic one which will be out of support in August.

As per MS, we can get the SCCM CMG VMSS configured at the same time, but the query is when VMSS is configured, and new CMG connection point role is configured how existing clients which are currently managed from Classic CMG will start connecting to new CMG with VMSS?

Please suggest the best method here to let client know for connecting to new CMG.

MP will provide details of the CMG urls to the endpoints. When you remove the classic instance, clients will automatically start using the VMSS.

Thank you so much Rahul for the quick response.

So, which means once the new CMG VMSS is ready we need to remove the older one first correct? then only client will start communicating to new MP right ?

Is this safest method to remove first or can't we stop older cmg services ? would that work ?

Hi @Rahul Jindal [MVP] This query is specific to our environment. We have a running CMG classic installed on CAS and under the CMG connection point is installed on one of the primary servers and let's say its side code is ABC. Now, this existing primary client (ABC) we are going to migrate them into another child primary new site CDE recently added to hierarchy. So, our plan is to create new CMG VMSS at CAS and a new CMG connection point at new primary site. The client which at ABC will communicate to CMG classic and the ones which migrated to new primary will communicate to CDE site. Is this something possible? Else as you said we need to delete the classic once VMSS is ready. But that would impact our migration, right?

Please suggest the best approach here.

Your scenario is altogether different. If you are planning to migrate the clients to the new primary then I’ll suggest you do that first so that all the intended clients get the url of the VMSS CMG.

Thanks a lot Rahul for your response. So, we should wait till the client migration is completed then only setup the new CMG VMSS. However, the customer wants to support both the clients on existing primary with Old CMG and wanted to setup a new CMG VMSS to support new clients when migrated. This doesn't look possible right Sir
