How do I get the URL for my own teams chat?

I noticed (oddly and frustratingly) I can't tag myself, but I need to make a tag so people can click on my name. I'm attempting to make a link in a teams comment and attach the URL to my name, but I don't know how to create that link. Help?

maybe I can get someone else to tag me and then I'll open the web browser version of Teams and grab the URL from the HTML. I doubt it will work but hacking Teams is really the only way to make it a 1/4 the way functional tool

To get the URL for your own Teams chat, you can follow these steps:

Open Teams and go to the chat tab where you want to get the URL.

Click on the three dots next to the chat name to open the menu.

Click on "Get link to conversation".

A pop-up window will appear with a URL. This is the URL for your chat.

Click "Copy" to copy the URL to your clipboard.

You can then paste the URL into your comment and add the appropriate text to create a clickable link. For example, you can add the following text to your comment:

Link to My Chat

This will create a clickable link with the text "Link to My Chat" that will take users directly to your chat.

Hi

The client cannot directly obtain the personal chat link. The method mentioned above is to get a channel link.

I'm already in the team, I'm trying to tag myself in the team. There's no clients, this is 100% internal.

Hi

As mentioned below, this allows other people to connect directly with you via a link jump. The same account is currently not available via link, or you need to find your own chat window in the client terminal.

Hmm, that just opened a blank chat. And the javascript solution is for web; I'm inside teams Teams app.

Ben Teoh, yes it should be exactly like tagging someone else but it just doesn't work. I have 15 years working in front-end web dev so I know how to write a URL parameter, but that doesn't seem to work (and I'm not sure why I need a workaround to tag myself in the first place)

The link provided should open a chat with the account/s in the parameter. I’d recommend testing it with another user in the tenant. I’ve tested it again with several users including myself, internal users and external users. If you’re still having an issue, I’d suggest escalating it to your support team.

OK, so what's going on is this unfortunate workaround to simply tag yourself in your own post probably only works with other people. So I can probably use my email in there, it's just impossible for me to test. This is pure gold MS nonsense, but that's for me wasing your time a couple hours of mine to do something that should be easy and obvious. And no my support team is not able to help with anything MS. All of my problems are bad design and bugs exclusive to Mac OS. Which, of course is why a 60,000 person ad agency is an inappropriate client for MS, but here we are, using accounting tools for visual communication.

Ok yes this worked, it's just confusing and there's no way to know if this solution works unless I have external QA, which is overkill for a simple post in Teams.

Confirmed: https://teams.microsoft.com/l/chat/0/0?users=<NOT your email address> opens a chat with the email address in question but only if it is someone else's email address, otherwise it opens the chat menu with no target and does not say why.

TY 41844108. Saved me some time troubleshooting. The least they could do is make an error message saying that you can't test your own link.

I always use the "sip" URL protocol for a "chat with me" link on my email signature. You create a link as normal, with the target address formatted simply:

sip:user.name@domain.com

Anyone who clicks it with Teams installed should have the sip URL protocol registered on their device, which should launch the registered chat client (Teams). This has been around since Skype for Business or Lync (I forget which came first) and still works today.
