Do Edge Workspaces rely on organization-wide share links when attempting to share a Workspace with colleagues (since the Workspace is stored in OneDrive)

We are attempting to use Edge Workspaces. We can create the workspace, use the functionality, etc. So that all works.

What isn't working is the sharing.

  1. When we try to share via "Send Invite Email" we get the following error: "Failed to send invite email. Error 36"
  2. When we try to share via "Copy Link", we get the following error: "Error: Unable to fetch sharing link"

I know the workspaces are stored in the owner's OneDrive. We have organization-wide sharing links disabled for our company. Is the "invite" and sharing functionality in Edge Workspaces dependent on org-wide share links being enabled? This is a frustrating requirement that we've seen in other apps like Loop and Whiteboard. Curious if the same requirement is needed for Edge Workspaces.

We use the "Set-SPOSite -Identity <site> -DisableCompanyWideSharingLinks Disabled" settings to disable the org-wide sharing links. We have compliance/security requirements that mandate this but unfortunately it impacts the capabilities of certain apps that will ONLY work with org-wide sharing. Specifically certain features in Loop and Whiteboard. I'm wondering if the same dependency is necessary for these Workbooks to function.

Also, it impacts all users in our tenant.

    Hi @mmcclain1224

    Thanks for your response.

I test on my environment, Set-SPOSite -Identity <site> -DisableCompanyWideSharingLinks Disabled won't disable Edge workspace sharing.

The errors you get when sharing Workspace, may be caused by other reasons.

To help you troubleshoot this sharing issue, it's recommended to post a new thread on Microsoft Tech Community: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/forums/searchpage/tab/message?advanced=false&allow_punctuation=false&q=Edge%20Workspace%20

    Thanks for your understanding.
