Eliminating Track Changes Markups Permanently

I have had terrible problems with eliminating all markups and comments from tracked changes documents that I send as attachments to emails.  I manage to eliminate these to get a clean text on the screen on which I am working.  I save the clean text but then when I send it as an attachment (or even save it and open it at a later date)  the markups, comments, etc all re-appear on the opened document.  I do not recall ever having this problem with XP or other previous versions of Word. On the current version of Word, there is no button or menu item under the Review tab to enable complete and permanent disabling of the change markups.  This makes no sense.  Moreover, help options (eg “How to turn off tracking changes”) are useless.

You can't control what other people see when you send them the document. You will have to send them a version without tracking and without comments, if you don't want to share the markup with others.

Are you using the full desktop application in Windows? In that case, to completely get rid of markup in a document, do the following: On the Review tab, click the arrow on the Accept button (in the Changes group) and then click Accept All Changes and Stop Tracking.

If the document contains comments, also click Delete (in the Comments group) and then click Delete All Comments in Document.

    Dear Stefan Blom,

Thank you so much! You gave me the exact steps and specifications I needed to complete the task. This has saved me lots of frustration (especially since the document I am working on is in French to be sent to a French journal), both for my immediate purpose and in the future.

    George
