Hi,

After I export to pdf using the Acrobat tab in Word, I get the following error:

"Links in this document could not be retained in the converted PDF."

Can anyone tell me why this is happening and whether there's a fix?

Appreciate any assistance.

When you use the Acrobat tab, you are handing control over to Adobe software. It's not a Microsoft issue. To get answers on problems with Adobe Acrobat, please post on the Acrobat Community page.

Ok thanks - I'll ask on an Adobe forum.

Thanks also Mia for your help.

    Hi GH541,

Thanks for the updates. It seems like you have narrow down the issue to a specific link, to better understand the behavior, you may share me a sample file and I will help to further check on my side.

Here I have created a private channel for you where you can share the sample of the document privately to protect your privacy.

Hi Mia, thanks for the reply.

It's only happening with one of the Word documents - all the remaining documents export successfully.

Even with the problem file, it exports and all links work except for a link on an image which doesn't work.

Are you able to help further?

    Hi GH541,

As per the error message you shared, I tried to search online and I found it happened before on some other Adobe users when trying to export a PDF that contains internal links in Word for Mac application. For reference: Internal links broken when PDF'ing from Word | Microsoft Community Hub

Meanwhile, to make sure I can have a more overall understanding of the scenario and figure out how we can work together to investigate further and recover the situation, could you please provide more information as required below for a further troubleshooting?

    1. If the issue will be reproduced when you create a brand-new document contains only external links?
    2. If you export the document as PDF with the Word>Save As default function, will it be exported successfully and correctly? Some users confirmed the Word default method will not generate the error: Links in this document could not be retained in- Adobe Community
    3. Another suggestion provided by Adobe engineer is to go Adobe Acrobat > Preferences > General > Select 'Create links from URL' > Click OK and reboot the computer once and check if that works for you. See: Links in this document could not be retained in - Adobe Community

Please correct me if I made any misunderstanding and I will be here waiting for your updates.

Appreciate your time and patience. Hope you a nice day and stay safe!

    Best Regards,

    Mia
