How do I turn off copilot when your suggested procedure fails

I have used your procedure as follows to get copilot out of my apps but to no avail.

  1. In your app (for example, PowerPoint), go to File > Account > Account Privacy > Manage Settings.
  2. Clear the Turn on experiences that analyze your content checkbox.
  3. Select OK, and then close and restart the app.

I have restarted all apps, restarted my PC several times, and even used Task Manager to shut down every Microsoft application running that I can see and then rebooted. And still I see the annoying Copilot in Word all the time in Word and Onenote! Why can't we simply turn it off with a single button somewhere. I get a popup every time I open Word and Onenote and it never seems to acknowledge that I have seen it. You don't even have an option to not see the popup again! Microsoft really needs to sort this out as it is affecting productivity to the point that I JUST WANT TO SCREAM AT SOMEONE AT MICROSOFT!!!

Please sort this out or tell me what to do to very simply get rid of this ****! I don't want it.

If you have version 2501, look for the new Copilot tab in the Word Options and clear the check box for "Enable Copilot."

Start > Menu (all) > look for Copilot and hover over it > right mouse click > Uninstall > DONE or Settings > Apps >Installed Apps > Copilot > Uninstall > DONE

    I hear you.

    The action you described does stop copilot working if you click on the icon, but it doesn't remove the icon from your working documents. You can remove the icon from the Task Bar, but again, not from interrupting your document.

    For people with neurodivergence (ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia) this is an incredible problem as the icon literally distracts you from your task every time you go to do anything. Productivity is directly impacted by an icon that doesn't work, for a function I don't want and have turned off. And also, for a function we are automatically set up to be paying for and have to cancel our subscription to avoid. If I want AI, I want to choose it, not have it forced down my throat.

    The floating icon has to go.

    I knew this was not going to work. I have already tried all the possible solutions posted on the internet and have only gotten frustration.
    I don't know what path to take in life, as having that icon there always getting in the way will only lead me to a psychiatric clinic.

    This works in Word for Windows from a Microsoft 365 subscription if you have update version 2501.

    Is that your situation?

    Thanks for the great suggestions. I have upgraded to v2501 and noted the new setting. I have disabled Copilot so 'hopefully' this resolves the issue in Word. I am guessing it needs to be done individually for each Microsoft product, e.g. Onenote etc. However, I don't see the option in Onenote when I open it in v2501??? Surely they need to include this option in all products???

    As a follow up: I decided to also uninstall it as suggested by @JohnZodrow in this thread through frustration of not being able to amend the setting in all programs. This debacle reminds me of that crazy paperclip suggestion thing Microsoft once implemented which was a tortuous 'enhancement' that was decried as one of the most annoying popup things you could implement!
