Hello,

I have this strange bug in Windows - every time I try to save a word document, it defaults to this strange folder called "OneDrive" WHICH I HAVE NO DESIRE TO USE.

I have accessed the Options menu, and changed the default folder to a non-one drive related location:

  • but every time I select SAVE on a new document, it again defaults to this "ONEDRIVE" rubbish:

At File > Options > Save, select the option "Save to Computer by default."

You also have to specify a "Default local file location" which is outside of the local OneDrive folder, because everything which is stored inside the folder will be synchronized to the OneDrive cloud by default.

Note that if you want to prevent all synchronization of files from your computer, unlink OneDrive. See the "Unlink OneDrive from your computer" section in the article at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/turn-off-disable-or-uninstall-onedrive-f32a17ce-3336-40fe-9c38-6efb09f944b0.

OneDrive is not a backup, it’s a cloud location of your data.

The default installation of Office 365 and its OneDrive component uploads all the contents of the PC  \My Documents\ folders to OneDrive, (syncs) and there will be a OneDrive folder in File Explorer containing cached copy of all the OneDrive content. And in Word etc the default Save location is set to OneDrive.

No Docs/data is stored on the local PC

You cannot remove OneDrive on a retail O365

If you dont wish to use OneDrive there are numerous settings that need to be changed in each O365 component, but OneDrive will still be the default save location
