"delete" button greyed out in Word 365 online

Brand new laptop and just started working with Word online. I cannot delete files once they're

saved. These are not shared files and editing has not been locked. I can literally make a test doc and go to to delete it two minutes later (or an hour, or a day) and the files shows "delete" is greyed out. I can delete them from my OneDrive but, since I'm using the free version of Word online, I don't want to clutter up my storage with docs I don't want anymore, plus it's confusing and messy! I'm working on wifi, my docs have synced numerous times. When I open the file on Word it leads to an error and the content is gone, but the file remains. I'd upload a pic but my screenshot fails to load despite dragging, dropping, using multiple browsers, etc. :/

I'm not seeing a File>Delete command in Word for the web. File deletion is not normally done within an app. Word for the web only saves to OneDrive. Deleting the files from OneDrive is the way to go.

At the left side of your screen, below the Excel icon, click on that three-dot icon and choose OneDrive. Then click on My files on the left side of the screen. Hover your mouse to the left of a file name until a circular checkbox appears, then click on that checkbox to select it. Choose Delete from the menu near the top of the browser window.

If I click on the three dots I get the download option. It's greyed-out on every file. None of these files have any restrictions on them.
