Tried changing the format of the j cells.

Hi,
From any cell, copy 1 space looking character. Select the range and press Ctrl+H. In the Find What box, press Ctrl+V. Click on Replace All.
Format as a number or accounting or currency does not work on its own.
If I edit a cell, there are 5 spaces before and 4 after. Once those are manually deleted the format change happens ( the $ shows up ).
Thank you for the screenshot, those cells are not formatted to a number format.
Select all those cells again, righty click them and select format
On the left, click the Number option.
On the resulting section, set that to a number format like one with two decimal places and then apply that to see if your formula then calculates correctly
If I re-type the value in, the sum will include it. If I copy and paste "value only" it does not.

Right click them and select Format Cells.
