Windows 11 24H2 Update Installation Fails with Error 0xc1900101

I'm currently on Windows 11 23H2 and has been trying to install 24H2 every time it shows as available through Windows update. It always fails at around 70%, and all the error codes I got points to incompatible or corrupted driver (as per others who experienced the same). The latest is 0xc1900101. I've done all the recommendations I found online: update graphics drivers, update all motherboard drivers, update motherboard bios, bios settings on default (including disabling XMP), disconnect all devices except keyboard and monitor during update, remove discrete GPU and use the onboard one, use the Windows ISO installer, and disable all startup apps. But I still can't install the update. Basically I just need help how to get the correct dump file, and an expert to interpret it so I know what I have to remove from my computer to push the update successfully. I'm avoiding a clean install because reinstalling all the apps & games and personalisation will take a while as I have done a lot of personalization and tweaks in the last 2 years.

Hi Gelo,

It ran fine. Please do the following:

1] Enable Memory Integrity. To do so, go to Windows Security > Device security > Core isolation details > Memory integrity.

2] Clean boot Windows. A clean boot is the process of starting Windows without loading any third-party applications or services. For more information, please refer to the Microsoft article.

(Step 3 in the above link is very important. You need to first enable "Hide all Microsoft Services" before clicking "Disable all".)

3] Rerun the 24H2 setup.

    Each script has a popup for manual approval to allow it to run.

    The scripts run in the background and each has a completion popup with instructions.

    The scripts can run repetitively as necessary.

    Thanks for the logs. Please run the fixlist and share the output log file.

    • Download fixlist.txt
    • Save Fixlist.txt to the same folder as FRST64.exe.
    • Close all programs.
    • Launch the Farbar Scanner tool and click "Fix".
    • Restart Windows when prompted.
    • Upload the output log file (FixLog.txt) to your OneDrive.

    NOTE: The fixlist.txt script was written specifically for this user and for use on that particular machine. It is not recommended to run it on another machine, and don't run the same fixlist.txt more than once.

    The fixlist removes some outdated drivers, runs a drivers assessment, and refreshes the compatibility assessment. Your browser's cache and cookies will also be cleared.

    1. Please share your setup logs for analysis. The following batch file collects the setup logs and saves the zip file to your desktop.

    Download setuplogscollect.bat and save it to the desktop.

    Right-click on the downloaded file and click Properties. Click "Unblock" and click OK.

    Extract the batch file to the desktop.

    Right-click on the file and choose "Run as administrator"

    It outputs a SetupLogs.zip file on your desktop. Share the file on OneDrive or GoFile.io and post the download link here.

    (The batch file contains plain text code. You can read its contents using Notepad before running it. It collects the setup logs, msinfo32.exe log, drivers list, boot configuration info, and the compatibility appraiser results from your system.)
