In the expression: H: g(\\192.168.68.1), to what does the "g" refer?

It's the name Windows 11 gave to my external drive that is attached to my router when I mapped it.

Can I change it to something more "meaningful?" How?

    Think I figured it out. Wasn't so hard after all. Just RIGHT CLICKED on the drivename in File Explorer and chose rename, renamed it. Voila'. Seems to work. Why did it look so hard.

    It appears I didn't specify a name for the shared drive share directory and something (windows or router) automatically assigned the name "g" to the share directory. When I mapped it, there were NO directories on H:. Was trying to map the whole drive. Guess I'll have to figure out how to change it or live with it.

    Thanks for the help.

    Actually, it's the "name" windows gave the external drive when I mapped it:

    {10A5BEF9-3379-4BA8-B62F-BDD16BCC61EC}

    I'd rather have it named "Network_sto" or something similar. Guess I'll have to do some more research. Actually, I wanted to share the whole drive, not just a directory.

    Depending on what you are looking at, I would expect it to be the name of the share that you mapped.

    Here I mapped the Users share on another pc by both name and IP address.

    User's image

    User's image

    If you don't like the "G" part, then you will need to connect to your router's user interface and modify its configuration and change the name of the share. You would need to consult your router's documentation to see how to do that.
