Recently got a new phone and data was transferred from my old phone with the authenticator app included. My outlook student account was linked to the authenticator app on my old phone for 2 step verification process . Unfortunately, when I try to sign in, I don't receive the authenticator pop-up to sign in. I am stuck. I can't sign in to my outlook student account. Kindly assist me.

Hi there! My name is Ben a fellow member here in the community.

It is possible that the accounts you have from the previous device has not been transferred properly which is why it is not sending the code. If you still have access to the old device, you can try the following steps:

  • Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on the old phone.
  • Try logging into your Outlook account again.
  • Approve the sign-in from the old phone.
  • Once logged in, go to your Microsoft account security page
  • Click “Add sign-in method” → choose Authenticator App, then scan the QR code on your new phone.

You can also follow the guide from the Microsoft support page to properly transfer your accounts from one device to another.

Don't hesitate to post back if you have other questions and we'll try our best to help.

You're welcome! And sorry to hear about that!

There is a way but it is a bit difficult specially if you no longer have access to any of your recovery information. But you can try these:

    1. Go to your security information page or try signing in to Outlook as usual.
    2. When it asks for the Authenticator code or approval:
      • Click “I can’t use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now” or “Use a different verification option”.
    3. Follow the prompts. You might be asked to:
      • Use an alternate email or phone number if you added them as backup options.
      • Or verify your identity via a recovery form.
    4. If no backup options are available, use the account recovery form

Additionally, since you mentioned something about your school account. There might be an admin managing it if you have a school domain then you can also reach out to your school’s IT department or Microsoft 365 admin to help resetting the access.
