My second laptop was dealing with a crashing issue so I took it to Best Buy to get it reset. The reset didn't resolve the issue but after talking with someone in HP chat I was finally able to fix the crashing. I am now trying to get all my files back. My One Drive is set up on my new laptop. I am able to access my OneDrive files on my new laptop but I noticed they all have a weird icon in the corner that I can only describe as a box with a label on it? I'm sure this icon wasn't there the last time I connected OneDrive to my new laptop. Anyways, I want to copy files from OneDrive to the appropriate sections (i.e. word documents to documents, pictures to pictures ect.) but when I try I get the error message: Error 0x8007016A: The cloud file provider is not running. How do I fix this issue?

That brown icon overlay on the files indicates OneDrive is not syncing correctly.

1

Press Windows Key + R

In the Run dialog, paste this and hit Enter:

%localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset

Wait a few seconds.

Press Windows Key + R

In the Run dialog, paste this and hit Enter:

%localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe

When that process completes, then open OneDrive settings from its cloud icon on your Taskbar and check if OneDrive is syncing your files to your laptop.

If that does not resolve the problem, completely uninstall the OneDrive app from your laptop, then restart your system and download the latest version of the OneDrive app from this link.

WOW! THANKS A BUNCH. This worked for me as well. I've been getting this error for a few weeks now, while trying to copy pictures from my phone to my one drive then down to my laptop. I didn't know whether the problem was with my wifi, phone, or what. Anyhow, my onedrive update counter is up to over 112,000 files now, and it just started processing. I think I'll go take a nap while it completes.

Yes, solution 2 worked but it required numerous tries- could be user error.

However I want to backup files to a flash drive but I'm getting a message from Onedrive that I don't have enough space for same. Any thoughts for getting around this?
