Can't get @ symbol on my new surface pro 12 inch keyboard

When I click shift key + number 2 button, I do not get an @ (whcih I want), I get a " which I do not want. Help! It is a brand new keyboard.

Thanks for reaching out to the Community. This is a common problem and often involves your operating system's keyboard settings, not the keyboard itself.

If you're pressing Shift + 2 and getting a " instead of an @, it means your system is likely set to use the UK English keyboard layout instead of the US English layout. Here's how to change it.

To change your keyboard settings, go to Settings > Time & Language > Language & Region.

In Preferred languages, pick your language (like English (United Kingdom)), and then select Options.

Under Keyboards, if you see United Kingdom, select Add a keyboard and choose United States.

Once it's added, you can remove the United Kingdom layout if you don't plan to use it.

To switch between keyboard layouts, just press the Windows key + Spacebar.
