Windows 11 upgrade has caused Xbox controller issue

My wired USB Xbox Series controller was working perfectly, but immediately after upgrading from Win10 to Win11, the right and left bumper (RB and LB) sometimes do not register the button press OR will sometimes get stuck as if I am pressing the button when I am not. I don't believe it happens with any other buttons, but am not 100% sure.

I'm fairly certain this isn't a hardware issue with my controller since it's both the left AND right bumpers, and it only started happening after upgrading the OS.

I've checked the controller drivers, and they appear to be up to date. I've also tried calibrating the controller which did not fix it.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated, it's quite a frustrating issue.

Thanks

Hi!

Please try these steps on how to check if the issue is a conflict with the recent Win11 update.

  1. Update to the latest Xbox accessories app firmware. a. Open the Microsoft Store → install Xbox Accessories. b. Connect your controller. c. If prompted, Update Firmware.
  2. Force Windows to use the default Microsoft USB game controller driver. a. In Device Manager, find Xbox Controller under Xbox Peripherals. b. Right-click → Update driver → Browse my computer for drivers → Let me pick from a list. c. Choose Microsoft Xbox Controller (not “HID-compliant game controller”). d. Apply and restart.

let me know once done so I can assist you further.
