Hi @Vicki Kuhn,

Thanks for using Microsoft products and for reaching out for assistance.

I understand it can be very confusing and frustrating to see emails reappear in your inbox after you've already deleted them. This is certainly not the typical experience users expect, and I can see why it would cause concern.

Based on your description, this behavior is not a bug but is related to Outlook's two-stage deletion and recovery process. The core issue is that when you delete an item from your Deleted Items folder, it isn't immediately erased. Instead, it's moved to a hidden "Recoverable Items" folder on the server as a final safeguard. The new Outlook application appears to be synchronizing these recoverable items back into your main inbox.

To fix this, you need to manually purge the emails from this hidden folder. This is a permanent action that will stop them from syncing back to your account.

Here are the steps to access the Recoverable Items folder and permanently remove the emails:

  1. In the new Outlook application, navigate to your Deleted Items folder.
  2. At the top of your email list, click the link that says "Recover items recently removed from this folder."
  3. A new window will open, showing all the emails in the Recoverable Items folder. Select the messages you want to permanently erase.
  4. Click the Purge button.
  5. A warning message will appear to confirm that this action cannot be undone. Confirm that you want to proceed.

After you purge the emails, they will be removed from the server forever and will no longer sync to your inbox.

You can read more about this recovery feature in the official Microsoft Support documentation:

I hope this explanation clarifies the situation and helps you resolve the issue. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Warm regards,
