My laptop has been rendered almost useless following a windows update. The screen goes dark every few seconds the task bar has disappeared, and the windows key doesn't work. Task manager still works and I can see that windows explorer is constantly starting and crashing. What can be done to resolve this problem.

Hi, thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum. I’m happy to help.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re experiencing these issues after a Windows Update. The screen keeps flickering, the taskbar is missing, and Windows Explorer keeps crashing. Even though Task Manager still works, I understand that this makes your laptop very difficult to use.

Press the Windows key + L to go to the sign-in screen.

Press and hold the Shift button, then click the power icon on your monitor and select Restart while still holding Shift.

This will take you to the recovery menu.

From the 'Choose an option' screen, click Troubleshoot, then Advanced and Uninstall Recently quality Installed Updates.

If the issue persists, click Troubleshoot, then System Restore, and select a restore point from before the issue occurred. Let the process finish and check.
