Hello,

I am trying to close my personal Microsoft account (your email here) but I cannot, because the system requires me to first leave an organization/tenant.

The problem is:

On account.microsoft.com/organizations → no organizations are shown.
On myaccount.microsoft.com/organizations → I cannot log in because the account is personal.
On portal.azure.com → I receive the error AADSTS5000225.
I contacted Microsoft Support via live chat more than 10 times, and Azure Support once, but the issue has not been resolved.

Because of this, I am completely stuck:

I cannot leave the organization by myself.
I cannot close my personal Microsoft account.

I kindly request escalation to the Data Protection / Escalation Team and ask for manual removal of my personal account from the organization/tenant. This is the only way for me to successfully close my account.

I understand your concern. Basically, the error code AADSTS5000225 indicates that your tenant has been inactive for over 200 days past the billing cycle, triggering Microsoft’s effort to remove inactive tenants. When a tenant remains inactive for this period, the OMS commerce system imposes a login block (AADSTS5000225). Twenty days after the login block is applied, the tenant is permanently deleted.

Please could you provide your response for below:

1.Please could you let us know Did you created an account in portal.azure.com or were you added by some Organization or some school?

Do you know the tenant id which is blocking you from your account deletion?

Since how many days you're receiving error AADSTS5000225 when trying to login?

Usually, schools or organization add the users to share their resources with their users, and they have the admin privileges to remove a user. However, you clearly mentioned the error code AADSTS5000225 which means the tenant is currently inactive. As mentioned above post 20 days the login is blocked the tenant is permanently deleted after which you can close your account.

I ve been trying to close my account for almost a month now.. so it is more than 20 days.. and until this issue I did not know that I was added to an organization

Hello @Mahmut

Thanks for quick response. As mentioned in my comment earlier, admin of the tenant will have access to remove the user. Interpreting from your earlier comment, as you're not aware of Organization which added you hence knowing the tenant id's for the same is difficult. An extension to this, there might a possibility that you might have been added to more than one tenant.

So I think there is no solution other than manually detached by microsoft.. which is what I request

Same issue from me, tenant inactive for over a month still not deleted. Microsoft don't care.

Funny part is, I can't even create ticket because blocked tenant is not allowing me to get into azure. So what I can do? Your live support doesn't have a clue and tells me to create ticket in azure. But I can't as blocked tenant is not allowing me xD. Will Microsoft do anything to fix this situation? You already have like 30 posts about same issue on forum.

Thanks again for quick response. In Microsoft support there are various departments, the present ticket which you raised is under "Azure" however the email related support is different. Please raise another ticket by selecting "Outlook" in the below link (click on "show expanded list of services"), they'll be able to help you. Pasting the screenshot for the same. User's image

I completely understand your concern and the inconvenience which you mentioned in your query, but we can help only for queries related to Microsoft Entra ID.

The outlook option takes you to the self-help, so it is impossible to talk to someone or open a ticket. The Live chat support says to go to azure but azure support is only available for payed organizations (I have a personal account and I want my account deleted, it can't be that hard).

Can you please direct me to a way of contacting the outlook support team, not the self-help?

Hey there, Mahmut

The first link doesn't exist. There isn't a way to see what organisations you are attached to with your Microsoft account, which is a shame. Not like you can through the Microsoft account overview page.

Instead, please can you go to https://teams.microsoft.com in your web browser

When the web app opens, you may need to click onto continue the web, you will see your avatar and name in the right-hand corner.

If you click onto the avatar, it will show you what organisations you are attached to with your personal account.

All the organisations will be displayed where the orange box is on my image above. If you find one, then you will need to sign into your account on https://portal.azure.com

If you are the admin of the tenant, you should be able to close the tenant by signing in and following the steps in this article: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory-b2c/tutorial-delete-tenant

If you are not the admin, to leave a tenant, you will need to speak to an admin for that tenant and ask them to remove you.

Does it show the tenant your Microsoft account is attached to?

There is no organization there.. only shows my status and another option: set status message..

Even so like I wrote in my first message, I can not lo in portal.azure.. it says this account is a personal account

I have the same issue. I have checked this reply and Teams only shows my accout. When trying to log in to azure I can't as I get the error
