Super Slow Start Up

Hello;

Since the last update 2025-09 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5065426) (26100.6584)

Which was Successfully installed on ‎2025-‎09-‎09

The start up time on my PC is so slow, that a slug can beat it to the desktop.

Not only does it takes more then 2 minutes to get to the slideshow I have on my start up, which used to take less then 30 seconds, when I put my PIN in and enter it takes any where from 30 seconds to 1 minute 25 seconds to get on to the desktop. When I get there it takes another 2 minutes for all the apps on my PC to get running.

Before the update, within 20 seconds I was on my desktop, and all my apps were running, all I had to do was sign in to my password manager.

Any body else out there experiencing this kind of lag on start up.

You are correct on that. This might be a compatibility issue between the PC drivers and the newest update. In this case, I suggest doing a system restore, which will restore the PC to when it was working properly. To do that, kindly follow the steps below:

Press the Windows key + R, then type in:

rstrui

Then hit OK.

Follow the prompts and select the time and date when the PC is working fine.

Follow the prompts again until it restores.

Or another option is to wait for another update, and I highly suggest posting the issue on the feedback hub so that developers will also be aware of this problem, and hopefully, the fix will apply as soon as possible.

Hi, I'm Bernard, a fellow Windows user. I'm happy to help!

I understand the issue you have. There is nothing to worry about. I am here to assist. This issue occurs when there are unnecessary services running in the background. To sort out the issue, kindly follow the steps below:

    Do a clean boot:

A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program.

    • In the search box on the taskbar, type msconfig and select System Configuration from the results.
    • On the Services tab of System Configuration, select Hide all Microsoft services, and then select Disable all.
    • On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select Open Task Manager.
    • Under Startup in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then select Disable.
    • Close Task Manager.
    • On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select OK. When you restart the computer, it's in a clean boot environment.

Note: If the issue persists, a system restore or system repair might be necessary to sort out the issue.

Same slow startup here after update to KB5065426 and latest KB5065789. Tested on 3 different PC`s issue still persist on all, so don't think is hardware related problem. Uninstalled update for time being but that's temporary fix only. Will wait for MS to sort it out hopefully.

Hi, thank you for replying. I am glad that system restore sorted out the issue, and you are correct, the best option as of the moment is to wait for another Windows update that will address the issue you have right now.
