Using Classic Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
Hi!
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.
AOL uses IMAP/SMTP just like Gmail or Yahoo, but you cannot use your normal AOL password in Outlook anymore. You need to generate an App Password in your AOL.
I know you tried the whole setup earlier, but you need to try this method:
- Generate an AOL App Password
- Go to AOL Account Security and sign in. https://login.aol.com/account/security
- Scroll to App passwords → Click Generate app password.
- Choose Outlook Desktop (or “Other app”) → click Generate.
- Copy the 16-character password (looks like abcd efgh ijkl mnop)
- Add AOL Email to Outlook
- Open Outlook → File → Add Account.
- Enter your AOL email → Click Connect.
- When asked for a password, paste the app password you generated (not your normal AOL password).
- Outlook will set up automatically using IMAP.
Manual Setup (if automatic still fails)
Incoming Mail (IMAP):

- Port: 993
- Encryption: SSL/TLS
Outgoing Mail (SMTP)
- Server: smtp.aol.com
- Port: 465
- Encryption: SSL/TLS
Username: full AOL email address
Password: App password
