Personal 365 is expiring , invited to join family 365. Do I need to cancel my personal?

Hello,

I have a personal subscription that is due to expire at the end of this week.

A family member has shared their Family subscription with me and I can see in my account that I have joined the family group. I have turned off recurring billing but have not cancelled yet. Everything still shows as per personal subscription.

1. Do I need to cancel my subscription or should I just wait until for the personal subscription to expire.

2. if I cancel will that be immediate or continue until expiry date

3. Will I need to wait for my personal subscription to expire before my subscription shows up as being family?

4. will it automatically change over to family 365 and continue giving me use of Microsoft apps e.g. Word/Excel etc? Or will I need the invitation link sent again

I want to make sure I don't lose anything and everything processes smoothly.

Hello,

It really doesn't matter if you cancel it now or wait for it to expire. Make sure you don't have auto-renewal turned on though.
If you cancel it now, it is NOT immediate. It will continue til expiration date.
It is probably the best so it is less confusing.
Did you already accept the invitation? If so, after it expires, you can go to any of the apps, like Word, then go to Files > Accounts, click on Update license, log in after that. If for any reason if it doesn't work again, can you have family host unshare, then reshare with you. That typically can clear the issue.

Thank you this helps me a lot. Doing the old google check and a few forums gave me mixed results especially regarding cancelling. considering I'm so close Ill just let it run its course.

My only concern is the accept invitation part (point 4). I get the invite, its says "let's get started" and that just adds me to the family group. I had to do a couple times as the link would not work. At one point I got it to work but it did mention about cancelling my account as the my personal is an administrator account which of course it is its personal. I'm not 100% sure if it's actually accepted or not. Actually can't remember actually seeing the "accept" part

But I will check with the hosts account this coming weekend (expires Sunday) and do as you say reshare it again if it hasn't gone through.
