No audio input devices being recognized

Specs:

Windows 11 Pro

10.0.26100

AMD Ryzen 7 7700 8-Core Processor, 3801 Mhz

ASUSTeK Motherboard PRIME B650M-A AX6

I woke up this morning after KB5065426 had installed, and my audio input devices weren't working. Essentially I have a FIFINE USB microphone, it does not use its own drivers, it is plug-and-play. I also have Focusrite Scarlett Solo digital audio interface, also USB and plug-and-play, with no drivers required. I woke up and found out Windows does not see my devices. They connect to power and light up (RGB lights on the fifine) but all connective functionality is non-existant. They do not appear in audio devices, or device manager, or as drivers, or in Realtek. They do not make a connection sound when they are plugged in or unplugged, it acts basically as if I plugged in a USB cable with no device. (No input devices found)

These devices did work perfectly before the update, and they work right now on a different computer (an old windows 10 in another room.) After uninstalling the update, the devices still do not work. I tried windows troubleshooting restarting and powerbooting, reinstalling Realtek drivers, I tried deleting USB root hubs and reinstalling those drivers.

A strange factor is that every other USB device works fine, full functionality. I have a soundbar, a headset, a G502 mouse, and a G213 keyboard, and they all work fine. I've been using Windows since I was 3 years old. I don't understand why my PC is discriminating against any audio input devices. I would appreciate any help on the bizarre issue. Thanks

Hi,

First, check your USB controllers’ power settings by opening Device Manager, then Universal Serial Bus controllers, right-click each USB Root Hub, select Properties, go to the Power Management tab, and uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power," then restart. This ensures Windows isn’t disabling your audio devices to save energy. Next, try plugging your microphones or audio interface into different USB ports directly on the motherboard, avoiding hubs, since some ports or controllers can fail to initialize USB audio after updates. Then, verify microphone privacy settings under Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone to make sure access is enabled for the device and apps, as updates can sometimes block microphones at the OS level. Finally, if the above steps don’t work, use a System Restore to a point before the KB5065426 update to undo any driver or registry changes that may be preventing Windows from recognizing your USB audio devices.

Kind regards,

    Hi,

To fix USB hubs that fail to initialize audio devices, start by resetting them in Device Manager: open Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus controllers, right-click each hub (such as "USB Root Hub" or "Generic USB Hub") and select Uninstall device, then restart the PC so Windows can reinstall fresh drivers; this clears misconfigurations that may prevent devices from being recognized. Next, update or roll back hub drivers by right-clicking each hub, selecting Update driver > Search automatically, or Roll Back driver if the issue started after a recent update, ensuring the driver matches the working configuration. Finally, if these steps don’t restore functionality, it could indicate a hardware problem with the hub circuitry, in which case professional repair or using a powered external USB hub may be necessary.

    Kind regards,
