SOLVED: setting the conversions tab to "Unicode" solved the problem.
Equation editor no longer auto-formats

Equation editor used to auto-format as I typed. For example, 3/x would auto-convert into fraction notation, e^x would be auto-formatted into exponential notation.
It stopped doing this and I can't figure out why. Any thoughts?
