Hello Christina S, Thanks for posting this in our community.
I totally understand how worrying it can be when your Surface Laptop 5 starts heating up more than usual while charging. Overheating can sometimes be linked to the charger or internal hardware, but don’t worry I’ll walk you through a few steps to help figure out what’s going on and make sure your device stays safe.
First, try using a different official Surface charger if you have one nearby. If the overheating only happens with one specific charger, it’s a good idea to replace it.
Next, make sure your Windows and Surface firmware are fully updated. You can do this by heading to Settings > Windows Update and checking for any available updates.
Another helpful is adjusting your power settings. You can reduce CPU boost while plugged in by going to Control Panel > Power Options > Advanced Settings > Processor Power Management, then setting the Maximum Processor State to 99% for when the device is plugged in. This prevents turbo boost from kicking in, which can help keep temperatures down.
I hope this helps your device to cool down
Kind Regards,
John Oli
