Assigning work item through area paths

Hi Team,

I would like to do below in Azure DevOps, but I'm facing issues.

I have a Team called Star Sign and within that the work item hierarchy is as below:

Initiative name: Gemini

Epic name: Epic Feature

Feature name: Gemini Feature

PBI name: Gemini PBI

Now there is another team called as Earth. The Star Sign team would like to assign the "Gemini Feature and all child items" to team Earth, as team Feature is supposed to work on those Features.

Here is the issue, the moment I assign Feature and PBI to team Earth through area path Project\Star Sign\Earth, the Feature and PBI completely disappears from Star Sign board and only appears as a backlog / on board of Earth team.

I would like Star Sign to also see these work items on their board as Star Sign team has created the work item and they would like to see what Features are being worked upon by team Earth. As we have 100s of teams, we can't be going into each teams board.

How do I do this? Please help as I'm really struggling with this.

When you assign work items to area paths that belong exclusively to another team (e.g., Project\Star Sign\Earth), those work items belong to that team and only appear on that team's backlogs and boards.
Area paths are used to determine work item ownership and filter what shows on each team's boards.
If you assign a feature and its child PBIs to the Earth team's area path, they will no longer display on the Star Sign team's boards.

Single ownership of work items by area path/team is recommended to avoid conflicts.

Hello !

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Learn Q&A.

You can the feature in star sign and move only the children to earth.

Set feature in area path to Project\Star Sign and PBI/tasks/bugs under that feature to area path = Project\Star Sign\Earth or Project\Earth if Earth is elsewhere.

Star Sign board/backlog shows the Feature and can see roll-up and progress of its children and Earth board/backlog shows and works the PBIs/Tasks.
