Why don't my wired headphones show up as an input device?

I am trying to add wired headphones to my computer. I have followed the directions in Settings, but when I try to add the headphones as a new device, they do not show up. The headphones work on other devices.

That’s good progress, it’s a good sign that your headphones work in the back port. Not showing up as a separate device is actually normal for some desktop setups. When you plug in a 3.5mm headset, Windows often treats it as the same audio output device as your speakers, especially if they share the same sound card.

    Are your headphones using a 3.5mm audio jack or a USB connection, and where exactly are you plugging them in, the front port, back port, or through a docking station?

    In the meantime, try plugging the headphones in first, then restart your computer while they’re still connected. Sometimes this helps Windows detect them properly after reboot.

    If possible, try another pair of wired headphones to see if they’re detected. Let me know how it goes.

    In the meantime:

    Plug your headphones into the audio port at the back of the CPU instead, sometimes the front port isn’t properly connected to the motherboard.

    Once plugged in, right-click the sound icon on the taskbar > select Sound settings > under Output, make sure your headphones are set as the Default device.

    Can you check those and let me know what you see?
