Microsoft Defender - is additional protection needed?

I have a new Windows 11 laptop that came with Microsoft Defender. It also has a trial of McAfee that is asking me to subscribe. Also getting pitched from Norton and others, of course.

Is Defender all that's needed? One pc/one user, home use, other devices are iOS.

Thanks for any guidance.

Hi, good day!

Honestly, you’re pretty safe sticking with Windows Defender. It’s come a long way over the years and now provides solid, reliable protection without slowing your PC down. It’s built right into Windows, updates automatically, and works well with browsers like Chrome. As long as you’re careful online, avoiding sketchy sites and random downloads, Defender’s all you really need.
