i just got a used mac running 13.4 ventura os and want to download word

You can still run install and run Office apps on older Mac. Though you'll pay for a current version, the installer you get will be the last version that runs on your Mac. Here's my article on the Most Recent Office You Can Run - Best Practices.

As of September 2025, Microsoft Office apps are only compatible with the latest three versions of macOS (macOS Tahoe, macOS Sequoia, and macOS Sonoma). macOS Ventura is not supported.
If you've an Office license and want to install Microsoft Word on an Unsupported version of macOS, you can click the link below to download and install the Word Package on your device. (Version 16.101)
Note - The September 2025 update (16.101) is the last build to support macOS Ventura. You can also download the older version from the link below.

why does word not open and the other applications do; I have Tahoe 26
