every .pdf file word opens will not display correctly. why ?

PDF is not Word's native format. It is the native format of Adobe Acrobat. For 100% viewing accuracy, please open your files in Acrobat Reader.
PDFs converted to Word format normally need some work to make them look like the original PDF. The amount of work will depend on the complexity of the PDF.

I am getting the message "This page can't be displayed " when I am trying to open the emailed document.

See if you can download the e-mail attachment to your hard drive and then upload it to your OneDrive account at https://onedrive.live.com . The step to upload the document won't be necessary if you have a locally installed version of Word on your PC (or Mac).
