Merge 2 Objects (1 from Azure cloud only tenant and 1 on-prem sync) for same user

I have had an Azure Cloud tenant for quite some time. I have always used the tenant on it's own. I have used it for email and may other Azure/O365 services.. so deleting that account really isn't feasable.

I have the same user existing in the on-prem server that we recently began syncing between Azure and On-Prem.

I tried using Microsoft's built in "troubleshooter" for merging the contacts, but it fails with a generic error and doesn't really provide a way to fix the issue.

Does anyone have a step or process to merge these objects so that I don't lose years worth of cloud services?

This was resolved finally. I had to end up deleting the synced user from the cloud, change the UPN and proxy settings on prem and re-sync. that finally fixed the user's account
