I own the domain <Information deleted for privacy protection> and am trying to set up Microsoft 365 email through GoDaddy. However, I'm getting an error that the domain is already registered in a Microsoft 365 tenant named "<Information deleted for privacy protection>" that I do not recognize or have access to.
When I check the domain status, I can see it's registered in Microsoft's system:
I have verified:
I need help removing indieshop.com from this unknown tenant so I can set it up with my own Microsoft 365 account. I can verify domain ownership via DNS records if needed.
What steps should I take to have this domain removed from the <Information deleted for privacy protection> tenant?

Thank you for the instructions. I got through the automated answers and was able get into a queue. However, after 1hr of waiting on hold, I gave up. There's no way anyone can work like this. It's like the entire system, Godaddy redirecting and Microsoft terrible phone support is set up to make this as painful as possible.
Dear @indieshop,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
I understand you're trying to set up Microsoft 365 email for your domain indieshop.com via GoDaddy, but you're encountering an issue where the domain is already registered to a Microsoft 365 tenant named "Cadent", which you do not recognize.
Based on your description, I strongly recommend reaching out to the Microsoft Support team directly for further assistance.
To resolve this, the Data Protection team will need to step in. A technical support engineer can perform a remote session to investigate the situation, verify the backend configurations, and run any necessary synchronization tools to resolve the problem.
As forum moderators, we don’t have access to the detailed logs or backend systems needed to troubleshoot this effectively due to privacy and security constraints. For that reason, the most efficient solution would be to contact Microsoft’s support team directly.
Option 1: Submit a support request through the Microsoft 365 admin center
We sincerely recommend you try to create a support ticket from Microsoft 365 Admin Center > Support > Help & Support.
If your Office 365 subscriptions are managed through a federated partner or reseller and the Global Admin cannot open a service request, they should contact the reseller’s support provider. The reseller can assist with initiating the request and coordinating with the Office 365 support team.
Option 2: Contact Microsoft Data Protection Support by Phone
You can try reaching out to our Global Customer Service phone to raise a request for checking your tenant here: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support. During the call, request to speak to an agent, and share with them every detail related to your query. This should allow you to contact the appropriate team so you can solve this incident as soon as possible.
Here are some tips and an example of a prompt to help you navigate the IVR more effectively:
In some countries, it is an automated conversation like:
IVR: What kind of problem are you concerned about?
You: Domain.
IVR: What kind of product do you use?
You: Office 365 for business.
IVR confirmation: education or company account?
You: For companies
IVR: Are you an administrator?
You: Yes.
IVR: Do you have another administrator in your organization?
You: No.
You: Yes. I need to create a ticket. Please send me direct to the Data Protection Team.
I hope this helps you verify your domain quickly. I'm glad to assist and truly hope the information provided has been useful. Please feel free to reach out anytime if you need further assistance.
