Hey, I get how confusing it can be when something you've used for years suddenly stops working the way it should.
What’s happening here is that Excel has likely switched to “view only” mode because the Microsoft 365 license on your computer isn’t active anymore, either it expired, wasn’t renewed, or there’s a glitch in how it’s validating your subscription.
To fix this, first check if you're signed in with the Microsoft account that owns the subscription by opening Excel and going to File then click Account.
If it shows that the product isn’t activated or the subscription has expired, that’s the root of the issue.
You can also try signing out and back in or running an online repair from the Control Panel to refresh the license.
Quick question: do you remember if your Microsoft 365 subscription was renewed recently, or are you using a version that came pre-installed with the computer?
