Although I have unchecked the Copilot box, quit and restarted Word and my computer, the icon continues to appear on the docs I'm working on. It's enormously distracting to me. How do I get rid of it?

Likewise: I also often take screen captures from Word for tech support emails, and I don't want that floating logo included in them.
Nobody here can alter the design of the program. If you have suggestions, feature requests or complaints use Help> Feedback in the program's menu bar to submit them to Microsoft. This is a peer-to-peer support Community hosted but not monitored by anyone from Microsoft. All we can do here is support the product Microsoft supplies.

UPDATE: The 16.103.1 update appears to have removed the intrusive logo from the Word window.
The update is available to those who use the Current Channel (Preview) option but should be released to everyone a bit later this month.

I have used Word for decades, but Co pilot has inserted itself into my documents and I can’t get rid of it. If someone can’t tell me how to discontinue it, I’ll begin using another platform and stop using Microsoft Word and its products!! I’m sorry, but I’m very frustrated!!!
@Harold Brown, the icon which is discussed in this thread should be turned off if you update your installation of Office for Mac. On the other hand, if you want to get rid of Copilot entirely, you can switch to an installation type which doesn't include that app. See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/switching-to-microsoft-365-personal-and-family-classic-plans-58342e83-38e7-4cda-b63b-88604a8fb7ef.
Even if you don't or can't follow Stefan's suggestion to switch your subscription to Classic you should have the option to disable Copilot by going to Word> Preferences> Copilot in the menu bar. If you have a perpetual [one time purchase] license the Preference to disable it still should be available even though it doesn't remove Copilot from the Ribbon.

I already disabled Copilot using: Word > Preferences > Copilot. I removed it from the toolbar. I unchecked "connected experiences" so Microsoft can't scrape my data.
But the icon is still there. It's intrusive. It's why we hated Clippy.

We all seem to be going in circles with nothing really happening that helps. There is no Word-Preferences-optioin to disable co-pilot. My subscription is the family basic option that indicates that if I want to download co-pilot then I can. I already have it and don’t want it. I know you experts think it is all so simple, but some of us with a good deal of experience and knowledge still don’t find it easy to do. Can’t someone provide an answer that works?
And Bob, I’m not threatening anyone or anything. I'm just promising to find a new app if I can’t make this work. I appreciate your and other efforts to help, but the suggestions provided don’t work. There has to be a way to disable co-pilot that is simple enough for us to understand and do!
Harold, which specific Microsoft product do you have? The steps provided by Bob should work in Word for Mac, if you have a subscription such as Microsoft 365 Family or Microsoft 365 Personal.

Thank you for your quick response!! I do appreciate it. I have Microsoft 365 family plan. There is no “Disable Copilot in Settings” that I can find (and I’ve searched a good deal), restarting word hasn’t worked, I can’t find any additional updates. And I no longer work for a company where I can “Contact IT Support.” I’m not sure where to go from here, but I’ll keep checking for suggestions and hope for the best.

That is an unacceptable. I am a professor. I unchecked "Connected experiences" and removed CoPilot from my ribbon and toolbar. It's still there. It is unacceptable that CoPilot is asserting itself in an academic setting.

The subject of the thread is ithe Copilot symbol which appears within the document window, not the Copilot feature, itself. Earlier postings on the issue confirm that disabling Copilot and/or Connected Experiences did not rid trhe document window of that symbol.
As explained in my 11/15 posting here the 16.103.1 Office update removes that symbol for most users. Managed software may be affected differently.
This appears in our enterprise account. If I don't want CoPilot, I shouldn't be subjected to Copilot. Even the logo. If I click on the logo, Copilot is enabled and ready to rewrite my work. Even though I have done everything to disable it.
It's like Clippy.
Furthermore, it's in my university's enterprise account. It's asking students if they want Microsoft AI to rewrite their work. What's the point of paying for a college degree if AI is doing to do the work?
Enterprise versions are managed by the IT group of the License holder. If the methods put forth in this thread don't remove the Copilot symbol you need to discuss the matter with the university's IT group.
