How to remove Copilot from Word in Office Home & Business 2024?

Hello, I downloaded and installed Office Home & Business 2024. Now Word has this Copilot button in every document. As far as I know, Copilot is NOT an option or available feature, so how can I get this to turn off? There is no Copilot option in the Settings. When I click the Copilot icon, nothing happens. How can I get this to no longer show up? Very frustrating and contacting MS Office Support has been very cumbersome. The techs do not seem to understand the questions and the only support option is via Chat.

UPDATE: The 16.103.1 update appears to have removed the intrusive logo from the Word window.

The update is available to those who use the Current Channel (Preview) option but should be released to everyone a bit later this month.

So given your options for resolution. There's no plans by Microsoft to fix this bug?

Thank you for your response. It is very helpful to finally get some insight into why this is happening. I downgraded to Word using my License for Office Home & Business 2021 and the Copilot icon still appears.

Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

The issue you're experiencing is caused by the latest Office for Mac update, Version 16.103 (25110922), which was released on November 11. Several users have reported the problem to Microsoft by submitting feedback through Help > Feedback > Report a Problem. You can also report here.

Meanwhile, you can try these temporary fixes below and see if they help in your case.

    Option1.

Open Word > Preferences > Authoring and Proofing Tools, and look for the option labeled “Enable Copilot.” If you see it, simply uncheck the box to turn the feature off.

In the screenshot you attached, it seems that this option is missing for you. You can try option 2 then. (This helps other who have the option to disable copilot)

    Option 2.

Go to Applications > Finder > Drag the Microsoft Word app to Trash.

Then install the older version from the link below. V16.102.3 (25110228) - released on November 4.

Also, make sure that automatic updates are turned off in Microsoft AutoUpdate.

Let me know if you still need more help.
