Latest windows update might have caused my laptop to not charge

After latest installed update KB5071959 my laptop appears to be unable to charge- despite being plugged in, the battery remains at 0% and it shows that it's plugged in, yet the second I plug it out the laptop shuts down. Before the update the laptop worked just fine while being unplugged, and I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the battery driver

UPDATE- it appears it wasn't the update which killed my battery but the battery itself had died and needs replacing, so the issue is not related to update at all it seems

1

Open Device Manager (accessible by right clicking your Start Button)

Expand the Batteries section

For each device in that section:

Right click and choose Disable

Then right click and choose Enable

Close Device Manager

Restart (not shut down) your laptop and check if the battery is charging correctly.

2

If the battery is still not charging, click your Start Button, then just type msinfo and press Enter, please provide a screenshot of the resulting System Information window.

It seems that the issue you are experiencing with your laptop not charging after the installation of update KB5071959 may be related to how Windows handles firmware updates and battery power levels. Windows Update monitors the battery power level to prevent failures during firmware updates, requiring at least 40% battery power for interactive installs. If the battery is below this threshold, it may not allow the update to proceed correctly, potentially leading to charging issues.

Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:

    1. Check Power Connection: Ensure that your power adapter is functioning properly and that the connection to the laptop is secure.
    2. Battery Calibration: Sometimes, recalibrating the battery can help. Allow the laptop to charge completely, then drain it completely before charging it again.
    3. Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit (SDT): If you have access to the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit, running diagnostics can help identify any issues with the battery or charging system.
    4. Firmware Updates: Check if there are any new firmware updates available from your laptop manufacturer that might address this issue.
    5. Contact Support: If the problem persists, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for further assistance, especially if the issue started immediately after the update.

If you continue to have problems, it may be worth considering rolling back the update if possible, as it could be causing compatibility issues with your hardware.
