I switched to Microsoft 365 Family Classic today with 1TB of OneDrive storage. Error message says I have exceeded capacity by over 5000% -- but have less than 900GB used. It has locked me out.

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

Microsoft Q&A is public, and we can only provide information.

After switching plan, or purchasing additional storage (or freeing space), it can take up to 24 to 48 hours for everything to fully update across your account. I’d recommend waiting that time and check OneDrive again later.

If the update is still pending after 24 hours, you can try unlinking and relinking your OneDrive account, or resetting it. "Unlink and re-link OneDrive" https://support.microsoft.com/office/unlink-and-re-link-onedrive-3c4680bf-cc36-4204-9ca5-e7b24cdd23ea

If the issue persists after 48 hours, please contact Microsoft support for further assistance:

  • Here is the link: https://support.microsoft.com/home/contact
  • Type this keyword and press Enter: Contact Support.
  • At the bottom, click "Sign in to contact support" and sign in with your Personal Microsoft account (Not work or school account), or click "Contact Support" if you're already signed in.
  • In Product and services, select "Microsoft 365 and Office".
  • In Category, select "Manage my subscription".
  • Click "Chat with a support agent in your web browser".

If you ever find yourself stuck in a loop, please use the keywords "Contact Support" or "Live Chat" (without the quotes) and click "Contact Support" at the bottom.

I really hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Regards,

John J.D.

It sounds like you're encountering an issue with OneDrive reporting incorrect storage usage. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot this problem:

    1. Check Your OneDrive Storage: Make sure to verify how much storage you are actually using. You can do this by checking your OneDrive storage settings.
    2. Unlink and Relink OneDrive: Sometimes, unlinking and then relinking your OneDrive account can resolve sync issues and configuration problems. This can help refresh the connection and update the storage status.
    3. Reset OneDrive: If the above methods do not work, you might want to reset the OneDrive app. This will reset all settings and may fix any underlying issues causing the incorrect storage reporting. After resetting, OneDrive will perform a full sync.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to contact Microsoft support for further assistance, especially since it seems to be a significant discrepancy in storage reporting.
