I have recently changed my family name. Is it possible to change my current account or do i need to set up a new subscription under my new name?

Recently changed my email and started establishing new iDs under the new family name. What's the easiest way to transition from here to the new account or can this one just be renamed? Which i doubt.

Hello,

You cannot transfer products/subscriptions from one account to another, but you can give your account a different email address (alias) and change your display name. This is probably the easiest way to do this:

Sign into your Microsoft account https://account.live.com

Go to Your Info > Sign in preference, Add an alias.

You have two options here:

Create new: this will allow you to use the native domain outlook.com to create a new alias.

Add existing: this will allow you to add a 3rd party email address, such as yahoo, gmail, as long as they are not already associated with another Microsoft account.

Once added, make this new alias your primary alias, You can keep the old alias just in case you need it, especially if it is an outlook.com or hotmail.com address. If you delete that, it is gone permanently. I would want to make sure no one is emailing you there before you delete it.

Then back to Your info, you should be able to edit to change your display name.

This way, all changes happens within your current Microsoft account, so all purchased products/subscriptions remain intact.

You can change your display name and email address in your Microsoft 365 account without needing to set up a new subscription. As an administrator, you can follow these steps:

    1. In the Microsoft 365 admin center, go to Users > Active users.
    2. Select the user from the list of active users.
    3. Select Manage username and email.
    4. Click the edit icon next to the username you want to change.
    5. Change the display name and select Done.

After making these changes, the user's previous primary email address will be retained as an extra email address, which is recommended to keep to avoid any non-delivery report (NDR) failures. This way, you can transition smoothly to your new name without needing to create a new account.
