Yahoo Account No Longer Syncing to Outlook

Starting two days ago, after opening Outlook I get a pop-up asking me to sign into Yahoo (ATT/SBC). I have two Yahoo accounts which synced fine before. After signing into either, I get another pop-up with the message "By agreeing you'll sign in to Microsoft Outlook with your Yahoo account" and then "I agree to the Yahoo OpenID and OAuth terms". Nothing happens when I select Agree. After many tries, I deleted one of the Yahoo accounts in Outlook and re-added it successfully and no longer receive the "terms" pop-up for that account. I then deleted the second and more important Yahoo account, and when I try to re-add it, I again get the "terms" pop-up, nothing happens when I select Agree, and the add attempt eventually times out. Not sure what to try next.

Okay, so it looks like a lot of folks are having trouble signing into Yahoo from Outlook because the Agree button isn't working. It's probably a glitch with Yahoo's sign-in thingy in Outlook, messing with the login info.

Here’s a fix that usually does the trick: First, turn off ad blockers or privacy stuff in Microsoft Edge (since Outlook uses it for the sign-in window). Then, sign in to Yahoo on a browser, find Account Security > Manage App Permissions, and nix Outlook and Microsoft there. Next, erase any Yahoo or Office passwords saved on your computer (Control Panel > Credential Manager > Windows Credentials). After that, make a fresh Outlook profile instead of just deleting the account. This kicks off a clean sign-in. If it still whines, get a Yahoo app password and type that in when adding your account to Outlook. That skips the usual sign-in and tends to work.

By the way, do you have antivirus or firewall thingies that might be blocking pop-ups? Also, do you need help making an app password or resetting your profile?

Thank you. I so appreciate your help on this. Before I saw your most recent recommendation though I switched from Classic Outlook to new Outlook and was able to add my account there with no problem. Turns out I like new Outlook better anyway. Better features. But thank you again. I'll keep your recommendations in case I ever encounter something similar in the future.

    Hi,

I get how annoying that can be when something that worked fine suddenly stops. What’s happening is usually tied to Yahoo’s OAuth sign-in flow not completing properly in Outlook, often because of cached credentials or outdated authentication tokens. The first thing I’d try is clearing your browser cookies and cache since Outlook uses a web-based sign-in for Yahoo. Then restart Outlook and make sure it’s fully updated. If that doesn’t help, try adding the account in Outlook using an app password from Yahoo instead of the regular password—this often bypasses the OAuth issue. Also, check if two-step verification is enabled on that Yahoo account because that can affect sign-in.

aAre you using the desktop Outlook app or Outlook on the web? And do you have any security software that might be blocking pop-ups or redirects?

It seems you're experiencing issues with syncing your Yahoo account to Outlook, particularly with the OAuth authentication process. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    1. Check Yahoo Account Security Settings: Ensure that your Yahoo account is set up to allow access from third-party applications like Outlook. Sometimes, security settings can prevent successful authentication.
    2. Remove and Re-add Account: Since you successfully removed and re-added one Yahoo account, try doing the same with the problematic account. Make sure to completely remove it from Outlook before attempting to add it again.
    3. Clear Outlook Credentials: Go to the Windows Credential Manager and remove any stored credentials related to your Yahoo account. This can sometimes resolve authentication issues.
    4. Update Outlook: Ensure that your Outlook application is up to date. Sometimes, updates can fix bugs related to account syncing.
    5. Use App Passwords: If you have two-step verification enabled on your Yahoo account, you may need to create an app password specifically for Outlook.
    6. Check for Service Outages: Occasionally, service outages on Yahoo's end can affect account syncing. Check Yahoo's service status to see if there are any known issues.

If the problem persists after trying these steps, you may want to contact Yahoo support for further assistance.
