Hi, I have a Microsoft 365 Family subscription and I’m trying to add an Android tablet as one of the devices. Each time I try, it shows the message “Unable to add a device.”

I installed Outlook on the tablet and signed in with the Family account, but the device still doesn’t register.

Has anyone experienced this before, or is there a specific step I might be missing for Android devices?

Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

Unfortunately Microsoft currently doesn’t support adding Android devices to the Microsoft account device list. Even if you install Outlook or other Microsoft apps and sign in, the tablet won’t appear there. This is also noted in Microsoft’s documentation under the Android section in https://support.microsoft.com/windows/manage-devices-used-with-your-microsoft-account-d4044995-81db-b24b-757e-1102d148f441#id0ebbl=android "Sorry, Android devices cannot be added at this time".

I would really recommend sharing it directly with Microsoft through the Feedback Hub app on Windows "Send feedback to Microsoft with the Feedback Hub app" That way the engineering team can see the request and consider improving Android compatibility in future updates.

I really hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Regards,

John J.D.

To add an Android tablet to your Microsoft 365 Family subscription, ensure that you are following these steps:

    1. Install Outlook: Make sure you have the Outlook app installed on your Android tablet from the Google Play Store.
    2. Sign In: Open the Outlook app and sign in with your Microsoft 365 Family account credentials.
    3. Install Intune Company Portal: If prompted, you may need to install the Intune Company Portal app, which is required for device management. After installing, open Outlook again.
    4. Device Registration: Ensure that the tablet is connected to the internet and try to register the device again.

If you are still encountering the "Unable to add a device" message, it could be due to device limitations or settings within your Microsoft 365 Family account. Make sure that your subscription allows for additional devices and check if there are any restrictions in place.

If the problem persists, consider reaching out to Microsoft support for further assistance.
