Why is Windows 11 File Explorer so unpredicable?

I have been using W11 File Explorer for a few month now and it seem to have a mind of it's own. While transferring files into a specific folder, the next thing you know it has changed to a completely different unrelated folder on it's own. Example: I just transferred a file into a medical folder and the next thing I am looking at is a highlighted "Documents" folder. The other thing I don't understand is why it constantly wants to go to the "Home" folder. I never had this problem in W10 File Explorer. The other problem I have is with the indexing system in W11 File Explorer. It makes it difficult to compare files with a USB or other folder side by side.

You are seeing two new behaviors in Windows 11 File Explorer: the default Home start page with recents, and a navigation pane setting that auto-expands and shifts focus. The quickest way to make File Explorer predictable again is to reset its behavior and set stable defaults.

Open File Explorer, select the three dots on the toolbar, then choose Options. In the General tab set Open File Explorer to to This PC. In Privacy uncheck Show recently used files in Home and Show frequently used folders in Home, then select **Clear`. In Browse folders keep Open each folder in the same window. Select Apply.

Still in Folder Options select the View tab, then select Navigation pane. Turn off Expand to open folder and keep Show all folders off. Select Apply and OK.

For side-by-side comparisons, open one of your folders, switch to Details view from the View menu, right click a blank area in the file list, set Group by to None, and sort by Name if you prefer stable ordering. Go back to the three dots > Options, open the View tab, then select Apply to Folders so that the same view is used across similar folders.

Restart Explorer to lock the changes in. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager, select Windows Explorer, then choose Restart.

After these changes File Explorer will open to This PC instead of Home, it will stop jumping focus to unrelated folders, and your folders will keep a simple, consistent layout that makes USB vs folder comparisons straightforward.     Francisco,

    I think I did most of the actions on your reply and F. E. seems more stable. I transferred the same two files that I had transferred earlier this morning and it didn't jump back to "Documents" as it did earlier. The indexing system is now gone. I had my PC set to open in This PC prior, but somehow it got changed. If I have more problems I will go back to your answer and fix anything that I might not have done. I would have answered you earlier, but I didn't receive an email as I have in the past. I'll have to check that out. Anyway, F.E. is better now than in was before. Thanks for your help.
