Fixing "too many installations" issue

For several reasons, I like to have my copy of Word 2010 installed on my computer.

I have a legitmate DVD copy that I've installed on prior machines.

I can't install on my new laptop because when I try to register the program, it says it's been installed too many times.

So I uninstalled it from my old laptop.

But I still can't install it on the new one.

Why isn't Microsoft reflecting that I've unstalled the software and let me install it on a new system?

Try phone activation. Use the phone number for your region from the article at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/-telephone-activation-is-no-longer-supported-for-your-product-error-when-activating-office-9b016cd2-0811-4cb3-b896-5a6a13177713 (even if you are not presented with the exact error message that is mentioned in the article). You have to bypass all the automated prompts and stay on the line until a real person responds.

The issue you are experiencing with the "too many installations" error when trying to install Word 2010 on your new laptop is likely related to the activation limits set by Microsoft for that version of Office. Each legitimate copy of Office is typically allowed to be installed on a limited number of devices. Even if you have uninstalled it from your old laptop, the activation count may not be updated immediately in Microsoft's system.

Here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue:

    1. Contact Microsoft Support: They can help reset your activation count or provide guidance on how to proceed with your installation.
    2. Use the Office Uninstall Support Tool: This tool can help ensure that all remnants of the previous installations are removed, which might help with reinstallation.
    3. Check for Multiple Versions: Ensure that there are no other versions of Office installed that might conflict with your installation of Word 2010.
    4. Consider a Clean Boot: Sometimes, third-party applications can interfere with the installation process. Performing a clean boot can help eliminate these conflicts.

If the problem persists, Microsoft Support is your best resource for resolving activation issues.
